Commentary

So that will be all from the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Bangladesh win the series but India end it with a sparkling performance, to register a comfortable victory at the port city. The action now shifts to the Test matches, with the first Test to be played on the 14th of December, at this very ground. For sure, both the games will be important for India to qualify for the World Test Championship Final. And they will be up against a strong Bangladesh team at home, with Mohammad Shami ruled out. Litton Das (Bangladesh captain): I think the way Ishan and Virat batted, just took the game away from us, especially Ishan. The wicket was good, but the batting from Ishan was too good. Had it been a 360 target, would have been a different ball game but 400 is a tough one to chase down. It just was not out day today. But, I do think that we are heading in the right direction as far as gearing up for the World Cup is concerned.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz: I am happy, this is the first time that I have been the player of the series in ODI cricket. India are a really good side and to perform so well against them, with the right mix of youth and experience, is a commendable effort from us. Hopefully, our preparations for the World Cup come good in less than a year's time. It is also a case for us to make sure that we find the right combinations going ahead and execute our plans better.

Ishan Kishan is the Player of the Match for his double hundred that set up the win for India! Here's what he has to say: It was a perfect wicket to bat on and perfect situation for me to watch the ball and go with the flow. When you have so many senior players in the team, we've been doing conversations, when you get an opportunity, you make the most of it, I was thinking this is my chance, wicket was good and there was a lot of support from the support staff in the net sessions. I was not thinking about any records, I was focused on seeing the ball and respond accordingly. I knew the wicket was going to play well, initially Taskin was getting good swing, Mehidy was getting good grip and Shakib bhai, I was trying to smack the ball as well. We talk a lot of about fitness, they take care of us, it's important that youngsters get the confidence and lift ourselves up, we're just trying to do our best.

KL Rahul (India captain): It was expected from us as a team, it was brilliant to see Virat and Kishan batted today and they setup the game for us and the bowlers did the job for us. Scores don't suggest that, from the ball one Ishan was looking to be aggressive, he's grabbed the opportunity with both the hands, getting a double hundred in an ODI is not easy and Virat at the other end with his wealth of experience, guiding him was just brilliant to see. When you have 400 plus on the board, you know the opposition will come hard with the hard, there'll be chances to create, there's not much help but we kept bowling in the right areas and took some brave chances. Every team will try and get better, we haven't played a lot of one-day cricket, this is the first after the T20 World Cup, there's injury concerns but we try to get better, we keep learning and this is one more opportunity, first two results didn't go our way but we responded well, the way we turned up today was brilliant. Try and carry this confidence into the test matches and we want to see how the wicket plays and respond accordingly.

This was a commanding performance from India in all three departments! They scored the runs to almost bat Bangladesh out of the game, and then, backed it up with a superlative effort in the field to win comprehensively!

It was clear that the Bangladesh batters would go hard at the bowling from the start, and both Litton Das and Anamul Haque did indeed show such attacking intent at the top, but the change to Axar Patel from pace, paid KL Rahul's India rich dividends, as Anamul hit one straight down the throat of long-off. Litton tried to accelerate, got some to to go for boundaries as well, but in the process of continuous hitting, got out caught at mid-off. And that again, was due to good field placements and some good mixing up of length by Mohammed Siraj.

Ever since, India kept a firm grip on the proceedings and continued to pile up the pressure. Rahul's captaincy shone through today, with correct bowling changes at just the right times. The tactics against certain batters were highly impressive.

Shakib Al Hasan was the only top-order batter who had the right approach to this run chase, but he did not get the kind of support from the other end, especially from someone like Yasir Ali, to build a solid partnership and take the game deep.

The duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Umran Malik was too hot to handle for Bangladesh. There was a phase of play when both bowled in tandem and made it hard for the batters to adjust to the different types of attacking bowling. Kuldeep was good with his control today, and got the ball to hit the right lengths. But most importantly, changed his pace cleverly right through his 10 overs! Umran bowled with a lot of pace and hit the hard lengths to make it uncomfortable for the batters. Still, he can bowl a tad fuller on wickets like these to get more unpredictable for the batters.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the miracle man for Bangladesh, neither came out to bat early, nor got going today. But when he arrived, the match was very much in India's grasp.

Wickets kept falling at regular intervals and the Indians did not allow any partnership to build at any stage. Just that the last-wicket partnership frustrated them a bit, but with 16 overs left, the visitors finished the match and got the consolation win, as far as, the series is concerned. As for the lead up to the ODI World Cup next year, this was a fine performance, one that ticked a lot of crucial boxes for Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma!
