A phenomenal game where Chennai Super Kings got to the finish line in a high voltage last over had everyone on the edge of their seats. Mohit Sharma was absolutely sensational but Ravindra Jadeja kept his cool and smoked the last two balls to get those 10 runs. It was tough luck for GT after a tremendous performance throughout the tournament and even in the IPL Final. CSK gave Ambati Rayudu a perfect farewell as the team bags their 5th IPL gold! It was these two sides that kicked off the 16th edition of the IPL close to two months ago. Tonight, they've brought down the curtains on the tournament, perhaps slightly later than they would have liked but they've got it done. The Chennai Super Kings have got it done. You're not going to see anything like this ever again, a final being completed at 3 AM. Well, the crowds are only just starting to make their way out, which sums up the craze of the sport in this country. It knows no bounds, does it? Well, we absolutely love it. Well, the ground staff deserve a shout-out for their work in the last 48 hours or so, making sure we get a proper end to this fantastic tournament. In the end, as Chris Martin would sing, "It was all yellow."

Jay Shah and Roger Binny are ready with the trophy. MS Dhoni comes around but so do Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja. It's Rayudu and Jadeja who are asked to receive the trophy first before Dhoni joins in. It is passed on to the rest of the team, confetti bursts in the background and the Men in Yellow bask in glory again! 'Everywhere we go...we are the Chennai boys making all the noise!' - yeah that's their team song and they chime to it yet again at the end of yet another triumph. Proper scenes at 3 AM with young Matheesha Pathirana, who has grown into such a pivotal cog in this side, holding the trophy. And now, the kids join in - there's Ziva with the trophy as the entire team poses for a picture. Ravindra Jadeja's daughter is also there - oh these are proper pictures. The captaincy saga last year, the possibility of no Jadeja in CSK to the man himself finishing it off before Dhoni lifted him in celebration of a jaw-dropping heist that was scarcely believeable - is this CSK? Oh you bet it is! This is as CSK as they can get. Defying odds, overcoming setbacks and storming back in style like only they can. You can hear the whistles go long and hard into the night...sorry, morning in Chennai and all over the word wherever there's Yellove!

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings captain): It's better if you ask and then I reply. If you see circumstantially, this is the best time for me to announce my retirement. The easy thing for me would be to say I'll be back but I have to put in the effort for 8-9 months. The body has to hold up. I've got so much support, so I feel like if I can be back, it will be my gift to them. You get emotional, it's the last part of my career. When I walked down, the whole crowd was chanting my name. There were some tears in my eyes and I wanted to just stand in the dugout and enjoy it. I know I didn't get it in Chennai in the final came They love me for who I am and being grounded is part of that. They feel like they can play the kind of cricket we do. I think they relate to me. I never want to portray myself in a way I'm not. So, that's why. [Special] Every trophy that you win is special in its own way. We play a team game, so the whole team needs to be up there. When it comes to the crunch games in the IPL, you want the individuals to be ready. I don't think we started in the right way and there were lapses throughout. When the bowling department didn't do their work, the batting department took the pressure off them. I do get frustrated but I try to step into their shoes. The way everyone handles pressure is different, so it's important to realize that so they perform when you're there and even when you're not there. Ajinkya is experienced, so you're not worried about them. The special thing about Rayudu is that if he is on the field, he gives his hundred percent every time. The other thing is that we will never win a fair play award with him in the side because he reacts too quickly. He has been a fantastic cricketer. We played in India A together and is somebody who played fast bowler and spinners really well. He's also like me, doesn't use the phone a lot. He had a fantastic career and it's important to enjoy the next part of his life.

Stephen Fleming, the head coach of Chennai Super Kings, collects the winners' medal before the skipper MS Dhoni collects the winners' cheque. And now, time to hear the man himself...

The Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra will collect the runners-up medal before skipper Hardik Pandya collects the cheque. What a season they've had! So nearly pulled off a double in as many years but then, such is sport! So much to be proud of and we have a behemoth franchise in the making alright.

Let's hear from the Gujarat Titans skipper, Hardik Pandya: We ticked a lot of boxes. We played with your hearts and have always been a team that has stood together and backed each other. Really proud of the way we played this season. No one gave up. We win together, we lose together, no different today. I'm not one of those guys who is going to make excuses. CSK played better cricket than us. Our batting was special. Special mention to Sai - someone that young to come to this stage and play an innings like that, he's going to do wonders in his life. We've always been about creating and backing boys and making sure we get the best out of them. Their success has been their success. The way they have prepared and taken responsibility - Mohit, Lala and Rashid - the way they have put their hand up...special mention to the coaching staff - they've had sleepless nights in ensuring the boys are in a good frame of mind. Can't ask for anything more. I'm very very happy for him as well. Destiny had this written for him. If I had to lose I don't mind losing to him as well. I can't ask for anything better. I mentioned this last year as well - good things happen to good people and he's one of the best there. God has been kind to me but he's given him a little more today (smiles).

The match officials and the umpires are now being handed out their momentos. Nitin Menon, Rod Tucker, KN Ananthapadmanabhan and Jayaram Madanagopal were the officials for this game. It wasn't the easiest for them with the rain around, but they did a solid job to make sure we get a game eventually.

Shubman Gill ends as the leading run-getter for IPL 2023. He walks away with the Orange Cap having tallied - wait for it - 890 runs. STAGGERING!

Mohammed Shami is the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2023. He wins the Purple Cap this season, bagging 28 wickets. His teammates, Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma weren't far behind with 27 wickets each. Let's hear from Shami: [Powerplay responsibility] The ones who watch enjoy it but doing it is a lot more difficult. It's a lot more responsibility with only two fielders outside the circle. If you do well, it's always nice. [Red-ball and white-ball] There is a bit of difference. Even I'm human (laughs). Doesn't matter if there's a white ball or a red ball, you have to hit the right line and length.

Delhi Capitals win the Fairplay Award. Ajinkya Rahane, a former DC player himself, collects it on their behalf.

Rashid Khan wins the award for the best catch of the season - a sliding stunner which he plucked against Lucknow Super Giants!

Faf du Plessis takes the award for the biggest six of the tournament - 115 meters which landed near Cubbon Park as he tore into a Ravi Bishnoi delivery. His former CSK coach Stephen Fleming collects the award on his behalf!

Shubman Gill walks away with the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament award. What. A. Tournament. That this lad has had. And believe us, this is just the beginning!

Here's what he has to say: Obviously means a lot. The hardwork I've put in is going in the right direction. Unfortunately we couldn't end on the winning side but it was one hell of a game. I think I started well this season. I was getting those starts but getting out on 40s, 50s and 60s. By the business end of the tournament I just converted those starts into big ones. I practiced a lot before coming into this IPL. I changed my technique a little bit. It's going good. (On his knock against MI) I think each hundred was different. The Sunrisers one was more about control and the Mumbai one was about knowing the situation and the opposition. I picked the right bowlers at the right time.

Yashasvi Jaiswal wins the Emerging Player of the Year award. Scoring 625 runs at a strike rate of over 160, the 21-year-old had a memorable breakthrough season. Here's his message: I'm really delighted to get the emerging player of the season award. Thank you, everyone!

Devon Conway wins the Player of the Match Award for his seamless knock that set the tone for the chase. Here's what he has to say: Certainly a long time to wait. Obviously very nervous for a long period there but Rutu and I discussed on how to go about it. Personally for me it's the biggest win that I've had in my career. IPL final doesn't get bigger than that. Being part of CSK feels special. I've got to give a lot of credit to Mike Hussey, another left-handed player. Nice to be in those shoes.

Dhoni is seen clicking pictures with the kids of his colleagues. The Dad's Army is what they've been called over time but that is one happy family alright. They're not going to sleep tonight and I don't think any of the Chennai Super Kings fans would either.

MS Dhoni signs the camera with the players cheering him in the background. Will he return to the park again? We don't know. But gosh, he has been part of yet another theatrical script. If this is his last moment on the field as a professional cricketer, the end cannot get any better. But that's for later - we have one more beautiful interview to listen to alright!

Michael Hussey (CSK Batting coach): Hats off to Gujarat they've been fantastic all season. Thankfully Jaddu did his bit at the end to get us over the line. (On Dhoni) He's an amazing human being really. The biggest strength he has got is to take pressure of the players, especially the young players. You saw in the last game he was telling Senapati to calm down. We've also got this great man here Stephen Fleming. They complement each other really well. That's the benefit of experience - they've been in so many pressure situations and they come out on top. Some of those shots from Rayudu - that slower ball he hit over cover, I don't think too many people can play that shot.

Stephen Fleming: We have like 20-odd players and 15 coaching staff. It's a caravan of people but at the end of the day, you're all just sitting and watching helplessly. [Developing players] He's (Pathirana) been massive. We have been a little bit short in the bowling department so Tushar fronted up. We have enough talent there with Chahar, Simarjeet and a few others. With Pathirana, the backend all of a sudden became a weapon for us.

Ravindra Jadeja: Feeling amazing. To do it in front of my home crowd, they've all come here in big numbers and supported CSK. It feels amazing. This crowd has been amazing, they were waiting for the rain stop till midnight. I would like to say a big congratulations to all the CSK fans who turned up and came to see us and support us. As a team we would like to dedicate this victory to one of the special members of our team, MS Dhoni. (Thoughts in the last over) I was just thinking I need to swing as hard as I can. Every ball was important. I was looking to swing hard no matter what. Anything can happen so I was just backing myself and looking to hit straight because I knew Mohit can bowl slow and bowl wide yorkers. (Message for the fans) I would like to congratulate each and every fan of CSK. Just keep cheering the way you have been cheering. We'll keep fighting and winning the trophy in future as well.

DJ Bravo: It's been good. I'm very happy with them, it has been a great journey. There's a great combination and I'm proud of the way the young bowlers have shown the talent. Personally, I enjoy working with him and all the other guys. No one gave us a chance at the start. I hope my best friend Kieron Pollard is also watching. He has some catching up to do.

Tushar Deshpande: I said it before the season started, I want to win the championship. I can say that I've done that. Looking forward to improving a lot, especially under DJ.

Moeen Ali: Unbelievable. I thought the way we came back there...amazing feeling. To beat such a side like that on that wicket was amazing. You're always learning from MS, just about how to deal with situations and players. With MS as a captain, he talks to everybody. He's so approachable.

Devon Conway: (On his plans) Just positive intent, swing for the hills and hope for the best. Just a special feeling. It's been great batting alongside Rutu. Such a clean hitter of the ball. Our partnership worked really well. We thoroughly enjoyed our time on and off the field. To be involved with this environment with some top players is just great you know. Hoping to move in the right direction.

Deepak Chahar: We had this discussion every day. He (Rayudu) kept saying "I'm going to win the final." When I was not playing. It was a simple plan. We knew we have to perform, even if it was just one game. We have to contribute to the team to win the final.

Ambati Rayudu: I couldn't have asked for more. It's unbelievable. [Perfect ending] Maybe, maybe. [Today's game] I can smile for the rest of my life. The hard work of 30 years has paid off. I'm glad we could finish on this note. I would like to take this moment to thank my family, especially my father.

Ajinkya Rahane: Really enjoyed. Credit goes to CSK management and Mahi bhai who backed me and told me my role before the season if I get an opportunity. You just want to play your game. The freedom which CSK gives is massive. Really happy the way I batted. This is really special. (On Rayudu) Great character to have in the team, very intense. Great team man I would say. It was not easy for him to hit in the end but the knock which he played with Ruturaj was great.

Ruturaj Gaikwad: This one was more special because of how last year went for us. To come back in style, win games in Chepauk, win away games. I think this was amazing. The way everyone contributed throughout the season was amazing. This win we would like to dedicate this to him (Rayudu). Even today we were talking about a good start in four or five overs and then if we had wickets in hand we could easy chase down even if it was 13 runs per over. I've enjoyed batting with him (Conway).

It's well past midnight, into the third day of a truly unique, one-of-a-kind IPL Final. We've never seen anything like this in the 16 years of this tournament. We might never see anything like this ever again. There are tears of joy, tears of pain, and for some, it's just relief. Over 24 hours later than we should have had a winner, we've finally got one now. Chennai Super Kings have clinched their fifth IPL title and are now level with the Mumbai Indians. And they didn't make this easy for themselves, did they?

After the washout last night, MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to chase in this game. It didn't look like the best of decisions for the longest time with the defending champions going on to post a mammoth total on the board. Spare a thought for Sai Sudharsan, who played the knock of a lifetime to put his side in the driver's seat. The run chase took a couple of hours to get underway, but it was worth the wait in the end.

Rutu-way made sure that CSK get off to a flyer and it was the Kiwi who did most of the damage. However, the Titans came back in rollicking fashion with Noor Ahmad and Josh Little pulling things back. It was the Afghanistan spinner that broke the game open dismissing both openers in quick succession to put Gujarat in the driver's seat.

However, his fellow senior spinner from Afghanistan had an outing to forget. Rashid Khan went for 44 runs from his three overs which proved to be pivotal in the end, of course. It was Ajinkya Rahane who took him down with some class to play a handy cameo, along with Ambati Rayudu, who also signed off with a scintillating cameo at the backend of the innings to not only keep CSK in the game but get their noses in front.

It was the former CSK player Mohit Sharma who allowed Gujarat to roar back in this game. He got rid of Rayudu and Dhoni in consecutive deliveries to change the momentum again. All season long, every time Jadeja was dismissed, his dismissal would be buried in chants to welcome MS Dhoni. Ironically enough, the tables turned in this final with the great man gone for a duck and Jadeja needing to do the finishing job for CSK.

And that, he did, not without the drama, of course. After Chennai's local boy, Sai Sudharsan turned it up against his franchise for the Titans, Gujarat's very own Ravindra Jadeja returned the favor to help CSK clinch a memorable final. No matter which team you were supporting, your heart might go out to Mohit Sharma. Defending 13 runs in the final over, he conceded only 3 runs off the first four balls before conceding 10 off the last two. Needless to say, he and his side were crestfallen at the end of that game.

So, the Gujarat Titans cannot defend their crown in their own backyard. The Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings remain the only two teams to defend their IPL title, and now they sit atop of the list with five titles each. Oh, the absolute scenes in Ahmedabad tell you all you need to know. Jadeja has raced off the blocks in celebration with the team following him, before he finds his way to MS Dhoni, and jumps into his arms like it was a scene from the Notebook. Oh, you can hear the music in the background and the fans going berserk. Chennai Super Kings have done it! If that's MS Dhoni's final game in the IPL, it's been a fitting farewell tour and a fitting way to sign off.

SIR RAVINDRA JADEJA! GOODNESS GRACIOUS ME! Build him a statue on Anna Salai! Name a stand after him at Chepauk! Do whatever you have to. But remember this name! Remember it forever. After a game that has traversed three different days, Chennai Super Kings have been crowd champions of the IPL for the fifth time!
