Mohammad Rizwan was dropped from Pakistan's playing XI for the two-match Test series against New Zealand at the end of December 2022 following strings of low scores with the bat. However, he will be used as a backup option in the red-ball format and will continue as Pakistan's first-choice wicketkeeper in white-ball formats.
